GRAND RAPIDS, Michigan, (October 23, 2001) - Aquinas College Casa Hogar students will
be conducting an awareness project on Monday, October 29 and Tuesday, October 30 to
be centered outside on the east side of the Academic Building.
The goal of the project is to raise awareness of the medical conditions in Peru. A graveyard of facts will be displayed on 60 crosses and 20 tombstones that will be lined up on the lawn next to the Academic Building. Casa Hogar representatives will be present to answer questions and pass out flyers.
Casa Hogar, is a student-led organization that raises money for Casa Hogar Juan Pablo II orphanage in Lurin, Peru. Last year the group raised over $3000 dollars and this year the group is working to raise funds that will allow 100 children of the orphanage to receive the Hepatitis B vaccination. The prevalence Hepatitis B reaches 54.4 percent in some areas of Peru (according to a 1998 "Health in the Americans" report).
