Mars
Mars ♂
Mars is named after the Roman god of war due to its red color looking similar to blood by the ancient Romans. It is the fourth planet in the solar system and is approximately 142 million miles (1.24 Astronomical Units) from the Sun. A Martian day is slightly longer than our own, taking just over 24 hours while a year takes 687 Earth days. The planet has two moons orbiting it, Phobos and Deimos. The gravity on Mars is about 40% of the gravity on Earth, so on Mars you'd only weigh 40% of what you weigh now. Mars gets its red color and is thus known as the Red Planet because iron minerals in the Martian soil oxidize, or rust, causing the soil and atmosphere to look red.
