Discover Environmental Science

Science building with pond and foliageWhen you look up at the sky, do you see a rain cloud, or can you identify it as a cumulonimbus? Environmental Studies teaches you to see beyond the surface, connecting scientific knowledge with real-world observation. You’ll explore how atmosphere, landforms, weather, and ecosystems interact with each other, all while examining how human choices influence the natural world. Through hands-on coursework, internships, and research opportunities, you’ll move beyond the textbook to investigate real-world issues like land use or water quality. This preparation equips you to pursue a variety of careers or graduate programs. And, what better place to study than a college known for its natural beauty, with a dedicated sustainability team committed to planting every tree native to Michigan right on campus?

It's YOUR Time to explore nature

Why Choose Aquinas for Environmental Science?

Because it's beautiful here!

When you study the natural world, you don't want to exit your dorm to find dizzying traffic lights and commotion. Aquinas is a serene campus with two creeks, thousands of trees, and possibly too many squirrelsthe perfect location to study Environmental Science. Our Campus Safety office even rents out hammocks!

And make no mistake, you won't lose out on the opportunities of the city. The heart of Grand Rapids is just around the corner. You can walk out your front door or jump on The Rapid bus line and, in minutes, delight your appetite in the vibrant restaurant scene or explore hundreds of miles of local trail networks on foot or bike.

When the time is right, you'll want the balance of nature and bustling city to get the best research and internship experiences.
