Michigan Transfer Agreement
Transferring your MTA to Aquinas College
The Michigan Transfer Agreement will enable the transfer of courses from one Michigan college or university to Aquinas College. It provides for the transfer of up to 30 semester hours which will meet many of the General Education Requirements at Aquinas College. A minimum grade of 2.0 is required for each course. Students may complete the Michigan Transfer Agreement as part of an associate degree or as a stand-alone package. If you are awarded the “MTA Satisfied” designation on your official transcript, the following courses will be applied toward your general education requirements:
- 1 English Composition Course
- 1 Communication Course or a second English Composition Course
- 1 Mathematics course
- 2 Social Science Courses (from two disciplines)
- 2 Humanities and Fine Arts Courses (from two disciplines and excluding studio and performance classes)
- 2 Natural Sciences Courses, including one with laboratory experience (from two disciplines)
In addition, each course will be individually evaluated and may be used to meet major or minor requirements.
NOTE: Students pursuing Elementary Education must successfully complete the Aquinas College equivalent of MAT-105 Math for the Liberal Arts.
If you need assistance with course selection or deciding how the MTA will work for you, please schedule an appointment with the Registrar/Academic Advising Center by calling (616) 632-2871.
Additional courses in General Education are required when transferring to Aquinas College for a Bachelor’s degree. Some of these requirements may also transfer in from your previous college work, AP, IB or CLEP credit.
*Students transferring in 60 semester hours or more are not required to complete the World Language requirement.
Students entering Aquinas College who have completed the MTA and an Associate of Arts Degree have satisfied the general education requirements except for a course in Theological Foundations. Students will also need to complete the general education competency requirements from the following categories if not already completed through transfer of credit.
- Writing Intensive
- Senior Capstone
NOTE: Math and Writing proficiency is required for any degree at Aquinas College, if not already completed with courses taken in the Michigan Transfer Agreement and/or Associate of Arts.
