Jeanne Elders DeWaard received her BA from the University of Michigan in 1990 and
worked in the book publishing industry for a number of years before earning her PhD
from the University of Miami in 2003. Her research interests include nineteenth-century
American sentimental fiction and theories of race, gender, and national identity,
and her work has appeared in American Literature and Arizona Quarterly. She has also
taught in the English department at Aquinas and at Grand Valley State University.
In addition to keeping up with her three busy children, she enjoys running, cycling,
and hiking in the woods with her rambunctious French Brittany.
