Barbara Corbató is currently Assistant Principal Viola of the Grand Rapids Symphony,
where she has performed since 1990. She is an active chamber musician- performing
with the GRS‚' Calder String Quintet, the Perugino String Quartet, regularly at the
Chamber Music Festival of Saugatuck and in area chamber music concerts with friends
and colleagues.
Ms. Corbató is a dedicated viola teacher- currently serving on the viola faculties
at Aquinas College, while also maintaining a busy home viola studio. She has also
served on the viola faculties of Hope College and Calvin University.
Ms. Corbató began her viola studies in Columbus, Ohio, and then attended the University
of Michigan, where she received Bachelor and Master of Music degrees in Viola Performance.
Before making Grand Rapids her home, she performed in the New World Symphony of Miami,
Florida, the Spoleto Festival of South Carolina and Italy, and the orchestras of Columbus,
Flint, and Saginaw. She has also participated in music festivals in Santa Barbara
and Aspen.
