Mission

The mission of the psychology program is to contribute to the students' intellectual development and resulting liberal education by providing knowledge of psychology, its research findings, its major problems, its theoretical integration, and its contributions. The undergraduate psychology major curriculum adopts the scientific method in its philosophy of education for accomplishing the purpose of a liberal arts education. (Based on American Psychological Association guidelines).

Psychology Program Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs)

Students who complete the Psychology major should be able to:

  1. Demonstrate knowledge of key concepts, principles, and overarching themes in psychology
  2. Demonstrate psychology information literacy
  3. Interpret, design, and conduct basic psychological research
  4. Apply ethical standards to evaluate psychological science
  5. Exhibit effective presentation skills for different purposes
  6. Enhance teamwork capacity (collaborate successfully on complex group projects)
