Be an EXCEL Peer Mentor

The role of the EXCEL Peer Mentor is to support underrepresented first year students as they transition to Aquinas. As a mentor you will be matched with 1-3 incoming students (“mentees”). You will be responsible for connecting with your mentees no less than twice per month in order to increase underrepresented student involvement and engagement, as well as connect mentees to necessary resources that support community building and academic success.


  • Must be full time student
  • Must be in good academic standing (2.5 cumulative GPA or higher)
  • Academic classification of Sophomore or higher by Fall 2018
  • Have a basic understanding of campus resources/activities
  • Demonstrate multicultural awareness
  • Must attend full day training before classes begin


  • 1:1 or small group mentoring of first year underrepresented students
  • Plan and promote first year transition events on campus which assist in academic, social, spiritual, and cultural enrichment
  • Attend bi-weekly group meetings with mentees and monthly one-on-one meetings with Center for Diversity & Inclusion staff member
  • Average of 2-4 hour weekly commitment (time varies depending on the time of year)
  • Work collaboratively with a team of 5-7 peer mentors

Mentors will be paid a stipend each quarter.
