On-Campus Dining at Aquinas College

Meal Plans

Meal Plans

All meal plans are block plans which means these are the meals available for the entire semester.  The block plans are reset each semester and unused meals and flex cash do not roll over. If a student wishes to use a meal plan swipe or flex cash for a friend or guest, they can do so for any meal. Meal plans carry a combination of meal swipes and flex cash.

Meal Swipes: Dining hall meal swipes can be used in the Wege Café for all-you- can-eat meals.

Flex Cash: Flex cash can be used at The Corner and The Moose Café for grab-n-go or a-la- carte items. Flex cash is a declining balance on the student’s ID card.

Residence Hall Meal Plan:

Students living in the traditional residence halls (Dominican, Hruby, Regina, and St. Joe’s) are required to carry the residence hall meal plan. There are three options for distributing meal swipes and flex cash within the residence hall meal plan. Those three options are:

  • 275 Meals + $100 flex cash per semester
    • This approximates 19 dining hall meals per week* + $100 flex cash per semester to be used at The Moose or The Corner Café.
  • 220 Meals + $200 flex cash per semester
    • This approximates 15 dining hall meals per week + $200 flex cash per semester to be used at The Moose or The Corner Café.
  • 150 Meals + $350 flex cash per semester
    • This approximates 10 dining hall meals per week + $350 flex cash per semester to be used at The Moose or The Corner Café.

*19 Meals per week would include all meals served in the Wege Café each week. This includes five days (Monday through Friday) of breakfast, lunch, and dinner and two days (Saturday/Sunday) of brunch and dinner.

Meal Plan Options For Apartment/House Residents:

Students living in the campus apartments or houses have the option of purchasing a residence hall meal plan (as outlined above) or can choose any of the additional options below:

  • House/Apartment Meal Plan: 80 Dining Hall Meals + $80 flex cash per semester to be used at the Moose or The Corner Café.
  • Community/Commuter Plan A: 50 Dining Hall Meals + $25 flex cash per semester to be used at The Moose or The Corner Café.
  • Community/Commuter Plan B: 30 Dining Hall Meals + $0 flex cash per semester to be used at The Moose or The Corner Café.

Students living in the campus apartments or houses can also opt out of a meal plan altogether.

Commuter / Off-Campus Student Meal Plans:

For students who live off-campus or commute, there are two meal plans specifically designed for those who do not live on campus:

  • Community/Commuter Plan A: 50 Dining Hall Meals + $25 flex cash per semester to be used at The Moose or The Corner Café.
  • Community/Commuter Plan B: 30 Dining Hall Meals + $0 flex cash per semester to be used at The Moose or The Corner Café.

AQ Cash:

Students can visit Campus Dining, located in Wege 202, and add money to their AQ Cash account. AQ cash can also be added by visiting the Student Accounts Office in Hruby Hall 131. AQ cash is a declining balance on the ID card that is good in Wege Dining Hall, The Moose Café and The Corner.

The balance on an AQ Cash account can be checked by asking the checker/cashier or visiting Wege 202. This money stays on a student's AQ ID card continuously (i.e. it carries over from the fall semester to the spring semester and from one academic year to the next academic year).

Food Prices:

Prices at Wege are:

  • Breakfast - $5.50
  • Continental Breakfast - $4.50
  • Lunch - $7.00
  • Light Lunch - $6.25
  • Dinner - $8.25

Prices in The Moose and The Corner vary based on items purchased.

Meal Plan Selection / Changes:

All residential students must complete a meal plan contract with the Residence Life Office upon moving onto campus. Off-campus / commuter students who wish to select a meal plan, can do so by visiting the Dining Services Office in Wege 202. Students are able to change their meal plan selection only till the Friday of the first week of classes each semester. Changes made before the start of class can be processed by e-mailing the Residence Life Office at reslife@aquinas.edu. Changes made during the first week of class can be processed by the Dining Services Office only. If fall semester students are happy with their meal plan selection, they do not need to complete a new meal plan contract in January for the spring semester.

Meal Plan Exemption/Accommodation Request:

Students who wish to request a meal plan exemption or accommodation, should contact the Director of Residence Life at 616-632- 2945 for more information on the process for submitting such requests. Rare exceptions to the meal plan requirement will only be considered for the following:

  • A documented medical condition that cannot be accommodated by the College’s food service vendor (Note: Requests based on these circumstances should be submitted directly through Accessibility Services. Visit the Accessibility Services website for more information.)
  • Membership in religious organizations with strict dietary guidelines that cannot be accommodated by the College’s food service vendor
  • Off-campus internship or student teaching that substantially limits student presence on-campus during food service hours of operation
  • Other extenuating circumstances that are approved on a case-by-case basis by the Director of Residence Life and Director of Dining Services

Requests are reviewed and decided upon by a meal plan exemption/accommodation committee.
