Alumni Association Leadership Council

The Alumni Association Leadership Council (AALC) oversees the outstanding Alumni Award programs, actively supports alumni engagement and serves as the liaison between Aquinas College Alumni and the Board of Trustees.

Meet Your Alumni Council 

Josh Marko '10

Josh’s journey following graduation from Aquinas has included nuclear power maintenance, managing a motorsports venue, and completing an MBA. He is a project manager with the Michigan Small Business Development Center at Grand Valley State University. Josh has also serves on the Executive Committee of American Model United Nations International. Josh states, “Aquinas has been central to my life since my father accepted a position at the College as a professor in 1989. My experience as a student was formative academically, socially, emotionally and spiritually. I did not anticipate how significant and enduring relationships with peers, faculty and staff would become. These individuals continue to be a meaningful part of my day-to-day life. Serving on the Alumni Board is an opportunity to spend time with the AQ family, as well as to contribute to the mission of the institution that has brought me so much benefit.”

Will Eberle Will Eberle '10
Will is presently a manager of Government Relations and External Affairs at E. ON. Will States: “I felt strongly the need to give back to the institution to help it continue and grow the great work it does to help educate and shape future generations of leaders”.

Sara Karasinski '10
Sara presently works at Amway as a supply chain planner supporting China, India and Vietnam. Sara states, “I love the open community and 'home away from home' that is Aquinas. When this is paired with the excellent education AQ provides, you have an indispensable combination. I am passionate about the board because I want everyone who comes to AQ to have this feeling. I also want to drive more involvement from alumni and show them ways they can get involved and impact AQ's future.”

President Emeritus
After graduation, Loren joined Teach For America, teaching 7th grade math in St. Louis, MO. Loren presently works at Plante Moran, while pursuing his MBA at the University of Michigan. When not working or studying, Loren enjoys time spent with his wife Amy, and two daughters - Emma & Nora. Loren states, “Aquinas made me the person I am today. It taught me how to think critically & serve others. I met my best friends at AQ who I regularly keep in contact with to this day.”

Chris Abid '09

Chris is the Athletic Director / Director of Student Activities at Kalamazoo Hackett Prep High School. "My wife and I are both AQ Alums and feel a strong sense for the purpose of Aquinas. The AALC is a great way to get involved and connect with other alumni as well as help attract new students."

Alumni Counsil Member Headshot Stathi Afendoulis '79

Stathi is an educator and entrepreneur, with degrees in English and Theater and Performing Arts. He has worked professionally as a theater director and administrator; a professor of English, Theater and Communications; and a successful business owner in the retail clothing and dry cleaning industry. He is the founder and Executive Director of Lainie's Angels, a foundation named in memory of his daughter, which serves the families of children with cancer and blood disorders.  He is the co-author of "The Grieving Garden: Living with the Death of a Child" (Hampton Roads Publishing Company), and the author of many essays and blogs dealing with the effects of pediatric cancer and blood disorders on children and families. Stathi states, “I love the great sense of community and belonging instilled by the educational experience at Aquinas. Serving on the board helps perpetuate this legacy for future generations, and I am proud to be its messenger”

Jim Bolek '95
Jim is currently Vice President of Payroll Operations at BASIC. Jim states, "Having three kids there currently, I wanted to get involved more with the college and give back to a college that supported and shaped me."

Amelia is currently the Responsible Sourcing Specialist at Wolverine World Wide. Amelia States: “The most amazing experiences I had were opportunities that I would never have considered possible before AQ”.

Kevin Geary '86
Kevin is currently the Curator of Education at Tri-Cities Historical Museum. Kevin states: "Aquinas College and the years I spent studying there hold a special place in my heart. I have always wanted to give back to the place that gave me so much. Joining the AALC seemed like a great way to do that."

Kim is presently the Michigan Territory Marketing Manager for Patriot Underwriters, Inc. Kim states, “I like AQ's passion for more than just a classroom education.  It's not simply a job here to educate, nor is it just strong classroom teaching that makes a capable graduate. It's the overall commitment to turn students into broadly rounded, socially engaged, well-prepared leaders that can have an impact on others.”

Amy is currently the Co-Owner of Management Business Solutions. Amy states: “Aquinas holds a special place in my heart and I want to give back my talents that I have acquired over the years since graduation”.

Allyson presently works as a Special Events Coordinator at the Metro Health Hospital Foundation. Allyson states: “I graduated a semester early from Aquinas. After that, I couldn’t leave”.

Sarah is currently a Meeting and Trade Show Specialist at Meetings & Incentives, Worldwide. "After graduating I moved out of Michigan, but missed the AQ Community. I joined the AALC for two reasons: 1) to reconnect with the AQ community as an adult, and 2) help (re)engage current and future alums."
